Course Overview:

This unit covers the conduct of excavator operations in the civil construction industry. It includes planning and preparing; conducting machine pre-operational checks; operating the machine; lifting, carrying and placing materials; selecting, removing and fitting attachments; relocating the machine; carrying out machine operator maintenance; and cleaning up.

Why should I attend?

Persons who are working in, or intend to work in the building, mining and/or construction industries operating an excavator to perform load shifting tasks.

Who is eligible to undertake this training?

There are no prerequisites for this course.

How long will the training take?

Diggerman Training offers different excavator courses tailored to suit different students’ needs based on experience and other factors such as time, having access to your own machine and/or to allow students the maximum amount of practical time on the machine itself.

Students will learn to operate an excavator in a safe and efficient manner. The course will include the following:

  • Plan and prepare
  • Conduct machine pre-operational checks
  • Operate excavator
  • Lift, carry and place materials
  • Select, remove and fit attachments
  • Relocate the excavator
  • Carry out machine operator maintenance
  • Clean up

How is the course conducted and assessed?

Your training will be divided up into two parts firstly theory and once that is completed a practical section. After being taught both how to operate the excavator correctly and all the required theoretical knowledge you will be tested in both areas.

Qualification outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the unit, a Statement of Attainment will be issued. Participants will receive a wallet card consisting of one (1) nationally recognised unit of competency.

Dress requirements:

Long Sleeve Hi-Visibility Shirt (or Long Sleeve Shirt with a Hi-Visibility Vest), Long Pants, Steel Cap Safety Boots, Hard Hat (Optional), Safety Glasses (Optional).
